b) Bridge is usually played by four people, two playing as partners against two others

c) In the diagrams illustrating the various aspects of the game, players are designated using the cardinal points N S W E:

   the North-South pair plays against the East-West pair

d) Bridge is also played in teams of four, the N-S pair of a team playing against the E-W pair of another team and inversely

           Team 1: N-S vs E-W        Team 2: E-W vs N-S
