a) Safety plays include any play by which declarer reduces the risk of defeat

b) Safety plays often apply to the play of honor combinations between dummy and declarer

c) Safety plays will sometimes lead to surrender a possible overtrick to raise the probability of success

d) A duck play, a holdup play and the refusal of a finesse are safety plays

e) Finesses should be avoided with equal-distribution suits

f) When possible, it is recommended to first cash a master honor before taking a finesse, in case an opponent holds a singleton honor

g) It is recommended to always ruff with the highest trump you can afford
