LESSON 24.2: FINESSES

a) A finesse is an attempt to win a trick with a non-master card after an opponents has played

b) A finesse guarantees a trick whenever the missing master card is with the opponent located to the left of the hand which initiated the finesse

c) A finesse should always be initiated from the weaker hand toward the hand holding a broken sequence

1) Finesse: South leads the 3 and plays the jack if West refuses to cover with his king

2) Finesse: South leads the J and plays the six if West refuses to cover with the queen

3) Finesse: South leads the 2 and plays the king if West refuses to win his ace

4) Finesse: South leads the 2 and plays the queen if West refuses to win his king

d) Initiating a finesse with an honor will be profitable only when the honor is part of a sequence

e) Initiating a finesse with an honor will be profitable only when hoping the honor to be covered by left-hand opponent
