LESSON 2.2: PURPOSE OF THE BIDDING

a) The bidding consists in a series of declarations aiming to inform your partner (and thus the opponents) of your point-count and your distribution

b) Primary objective of the auction for a partnership is to identify, in order of priority:

    - an eight-card fit in a major suit (hearts or spades)

- or two balanced hands to play in notrump

- or an eight to nine-card fit in a minor suit (diamonds or clubs)

c) Secondary objective of the auction for a partnership is to reach the optimal level to play in:

    - a partial under game (at the lowest possible level)

- a game ( in a major, in notrump or in a minor suit)

- a small slam or a grand slam in the safest suit
