LESSON 2.5: DECLARATIONS ALLOWED DURING THE AUCTION

a) The following words are the only ones allowed during an auction:

   one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, notrump, spades, hearts,
   diamonds, clubs, double, redouble, alert, stop and pass

b) The word Alert is used to inform the opponents that your partner has made a non-standard bid. When his turn to bid, an opponent may ask you (and not your partner) for the exact meaning of the call

c) The word Stop is used to inform left-hand opponent of your intention to make a jump bid; Stop requests left-hand opponent to pause for approximately ten seconds before making his own call (a pass or a positive bid)
