Q

DREYFUS: We were vulnerable against not. Over four diamonds, my partner, East, reasonned: "I can double and set this about three tricks for +500, so it's not worth bidding 5 for 600. However, 6 is worth a shot because a possible 1370 versus a sure 500 is good odds.

So far so good. But over 6, my partner bid without estimating the probabilities. He was laying 900 points to win 1440. My 7 call wasn't much better. I thought that he would be stronger for his bidding, and figured three aces was more than expected. As it turned out, 6NT would have made because North held 2-2 in the majors and South could be squeezed.
